10 Most Underrated Megadeth Songs
8. Of Mice And Men
Did you know Dave Mustaine was kicked out of Metallica? It's not like he ever brings it up or anything...
'Of Mice and Men' finds an older, wiser Mustaine looking back on his troublesome younger years. Serving as lead guitarist for the most famous thrash metal outfit of them all, the Megadeth frontman was unceremoniously kicked out. The decision came following two too many bust-ups.
While every member of Metallica at the time liked a good drink now and then, Mustaine's excessive boozing and drug use drove a wedge between him and everyone else. Following a bizarre altercation over bringing his dog to the studio, Mustaine was done and dusted.
While his fury over being given the sack lead to the formation of Megadeth, it took the thrash icon some time to really move on. On 2004's 'The System Has Failed', a now considerably more sober Mustaine is brutally honest about his own flaws from his younger days.
While the intro is a little jarring to those looking for a heavy anthem from the get go, the composition quickly moves into standard Megadeth fare. Despite being released as a single at the time, it's rarely brought up as an all time classic from the headbanging legends. Given its expose on a seminal time in the early days of thrash, it's rather surprising this track hasn't garnered more interest over the years.
