10 Most Underrated Members Of Legendary Rock Bands
7. Alex Lifeson - Rush
Granted, it's hard to really consider any member of Rush to be underrated in any regard. Although these Canadian icons weren't always the coolest thing to be listening to in the world of rock, they have each garnered a ton of respect from the musical community, being heralded as prog rock gods among men. In between Neil Peart's amazing drum fills and Geddy Lee's finger snapping bass parts, we had Alex Lifeson finding the most subtle ways to blow your mind.
Compared to the rest of the band, Alex's approach to the guitar wasn't as obvious as the rest of his bandmates, always looking to serve the song and going for whatever the tune needed. That meant building up a well of different influences, from being able to play classical style guitar on the acoustic passages to eventually making amazing open chords that felt like you were floating on air when you were listening to them.
If you happened to do a deep dive on the kind of runs that Alex was doing as well, you can find just as much in common with Jimmy Page as you would with more jazzy players, like on the song Limelight, where he goes from soft and melodic to something a lot more chaotic towards the end of the track. Every one of Rush's members have been solidified in rock history, but if you still don't see what the fuss is about, throw on Freewill and bow at the feet of Lerxst.
