10 Most Underrated Members Of Legendary Rock Bands
6. Ed O'Brien - Radiohead
In most rock bands, the two guitar dynamic can always be sort of a tricky tightrope to walk. As much as one guitar player might feel like more of a rock star, it's never easy to just be the one guy off to the side just playing chords. When Jonny Greenwood decided to go beyond guitar altogether though, Ed O'Brien managed to find a voice for the six string in all of Radiohead's music.
For all of us starting out on the guitar, hearing the sounds of Kid A isn't necessarily the most user friendly album to listen to all of the time. On all of the tracks though, Ed is still finding his place, whether it's manning a shaker in Idioteque or even when he's making dramatic soundscapes on songs like Treefingers. Being more in the vein of something like Television, these songs feel more like Ed creating textures rather than just making another kickass riff.
Even as the band started to go beyond rock on their later records, Ed was still more than willing to roll with the times, if that meant pulling out the acoustics for some of the tracks or digitizing the sounds of feedback into a loop instead of your traditional guitar figures. Though Radiohead have never been known as the most approachable rock band in the world, Ed O'Brien is still the one member of the group that is more in tune with the 'rock' side of the band.
