10 Most Underrated Metallica Songs

9. No Remorse - Kill Em All

When looking at Metallica's entire discography, their debut Kill Em All is one of the most straight head thrash albums they've ever made.

Sure, albums like Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets may qualify as genre classics, but the punk edge of this record is the purest metal affair that the band ever indulged in. These may have been the songs that built the Metallica empire, but "No Remorse" is more than just another thrash tune.

As the opening lick starts off, you can practically hear every single influence the band has had, with a groove that fits somewhere in between the swing of Black Sabbath and the crunch of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Though a swing rhythm doesn't necessarily blend too well with heavy music, the way Hetfield annihilates this lick makes you feel like you're being physically pulled into the groove.

Though the chorus is just a standard thrash affair at this point, this is one of the more impressive riffs that Hetfield played in the early years, where he started to hone his downpicking to a machine gun speed. Metallica were just tapping their potential with Kill Em All, but if even these lesser songs still hold up, you know you're going places.
