10 Most Underrated Metallica Songs
4. Four Horsemen - Kill Em All
Whenever you talk about the best of Metallica, it normally comes down to their epics.
Ever since their '80s glory years, the band have been known to stretch their songs to colossal lengths, with some of the most infectious riffs that the metal world has ever heard. Though some might single out something like "Fade to Black" or even "Disposable Heroes" as some of their more epic moments, the first time it reared its head was on their debut.
Centered around a swinging metal groove, "The Four Horsemen" is the first time Metallica tried their hand at writing an epic song, with the lyrics dealing with the forecoming apocalypse. With parts written by former guitarist Dave Mustaine, this song has everything you're looking for in an early Metallica song, from the killer main riff to the melodic interlude to the amazing solo from Kirk Hammett.
Given the amount of twists and turns this song takes over 7 minutes, "The Four Horsemen" is practically a warm up for what the band would later master on "Master of Puppets" just a few years later.
Metallica were already a great metal band by the time they released their debut, but "The Four Horsemen" was the first sign that we were witnessing a musical giant being birthed.
