10 Most Underrated Mötley Crüe Songs
8. Starry Eyes - Too Fast For Love
Of all the great albums to come from the Sunset Strip, the Crue's debut Too Fast For Love tends to get overlooked all too often. While not necessarily the most polished recording of the bunch, this has the same level of street cred that we would be praising Guns N Roses for over half a decade later, with songs that fit between glam rock and pure metal. Not every song has to really win you over with speed though.
Based around that one lyrical hook in the title, Starry Eyes is the kind of song that almost sneaks up on you in the track listing, as the band let the music really sink in rather than trying to cram a hook in every few seconds. This isn't like a jam session though, and the guitar effects from Mick Mars do a lot to create a weird sense of atmosphere around Vince Neil's vocals.
If anything, this is the kind of song that acts as both an endorsement of the lifestyle that the Crue was leading but also a bit of cautionary tale. As much as people may like to have starry eyes in this town, you better be ready to cut your teeth if you're willing to go the distance. It's not easy out there, and a song like this was only a hint at what was to come for the Crue.
