10 Most Underrated Mötley Crüe Songs
7. Bastard - Shout At The Devil
If you take Nikki Sixx at his word, Shout at the Devil was the moment where the Crue almost accidentally turned into a heavy metal band. Though they fashioned themselves more as a hard rock act, songs like Looks That Kill and the title track were more than enough to place alongside titles from Slayer and piss off concerned parents. You thought the singles were dangerous though? Wait until you hear the deep cuts.
As opposed to just singing about evil or dragons, this is the kind of heavy metal tune that is aimed at specific person, namely the Crue's former manager. Making off with some of their earnings, Nikki had a lot of pent up aggression left inside and made this song almost as a threat to his former business partner as to what might happen if he saw him again. The naughty word in the title turned out to be only the beginning of the trouble.
During the PMRC crackdown in the '80s, this was one of the Crue songs that got the prize of being awarded on the "Filthy Fifteen," with Tipper Gore and co. calling it one of the most heinous records that was being sold to kids in record stores. Little did they know that for Crue fans, that was about as good an endorsement as you could possibly make.
