10 Most Underrated My Chemical Romance Songs
1. Sleep - The Black Parade
When going through an album that's all about death and despair, there comes a moment when you start to want a break. There's only so much time that the mind can dwell on bleak stuff before you start to go absolutely insane, right? As fate would have it though, the Patient wants to take a breather to...but his mind won't let him.
During the recording of the Black Parade, Gerard Way was known to experience night terrors when he slept, which is detailed on the opening track with the slight spoken word passages. Once we're dumped into the actual song though, things take an even darker turn, as the Patient starts coming to grips with what he's become. This guy has apparently seen what Hell looks like, and is back to reek havoc on the rest of the world, turning into a killer in the afterlife and losing his sanity even more.
The only thing that compares to this would be something like One by Metallica, where you have a protagonist that's trapped inside their mind with pretty much no means of escape. Even as you hear the pained screams of "WAKE UP" towards the back end of the song, it's too little too late. There doesn't look like there's any hope left for this guy, and the darkness is going to be overtaking him soon. So next time you talk about the mall emo set of bands, take a closer look and see what the real darkness is underneath.
