10 Most Underrated Nu Metal Albums

7. Bloodsimple - A Cruel World

The Dashiell Hammett enthusiasts were an unlucky case of too little, too late in the nu metal scene. Born from the (eventually resurrected) ashes of hardcore legends Vision of Disorder, Bloodsimple slipped in under the radar as a sort of epilogue to the late '90s-early noughties new urban boom.

By the end of 2001, the nu giant had fallen. The damage from over-exposure ultimately proved irreparable which, for Bloodsimple, was something of a death sentence to their commercial chances.

Their 2005 debut LP, 'A Cruel World', was greeted by relative quiet in the music world. It's blend of nu metal stylings with hardcore rage lends it a metalcore flavour that serves troubled, bleak tracks such as the Iraq War-focused 'Straight Hate' well.

The album sifts through many of the angsty, grim, personal themes that were commonplace in nu metal '90s acts such as relationships issues, drug abuse and antisocial behaviour. While it's all been done before, the group infuse it with some new life thanks to their groove-laden, hardcore-focused tweaks to the classic nu sound.

It's an action-packed effort from a group that likely could've been massive had they put this out several years earlier.
