10 Most Underrated Nu Metal Albums

6. Five Pointe O - Untitled

There's so much going on in this short lived Joliet outfit's one-and-done LP that it requires a few listens to really, fully appreciate.

Signed with heavy metal kingpin label Roadrunner Records, Five Point O evidently weren't really sure what to call their first album. There's hints of several seminal '90s rock and metal fads throughout, from politically charged, Rage Against the Machine-style rap rock in 'Freedom' to death metal-laden contempt in 'Purity 01'.

The expansive, often hectic guitars take a page out of the progressive book, giving us the closest thing we ever had to progressive nu metal. The elaborate riffs and compositions complement frontman Daniel Struble's versatile vocals, alternating between harsh screams and refined singing, perfectly. The combination reflects the diverse, often crazed lyrics neatly as well as nailing down the colourful but visceral blend of metal subgenres on offer.

A passable success, 'Untitled' likely could've swelled with acclaim had the band stuck together and released a sophomore LP. Instead, Struble and guitarist Sharon Grzelinski buckled under the weight of high-intensity touring in the year that followed. Burnt out, both quit the band. Needless to say, despite promises from the remaining members that Five Point O would return, it never did. Considering the sizzling tracks on offer here, such an early split is a massive shame.
