10 Most Underrated Nu Metal Albums

5. Sepultura - Nation

Derrick Green's second adventure as the frontman of Sepultura sees the groove icons fully embrace the nu metal craze at the tail end of its peak.

Green's debut, 'Against', had been well received but decried as nothing special compared to the madness of 'Roots'. Previous frontman Max Cavalera's shadow hung heavy over the group following his departure and many wondered if the Brazilian crew would ever reach the highs of their debut LP again.

While 'Nation' reaching the power of 'Roots' is debatable, it did reveal Green's true potential. Boasting a selection of furious, headbanging anthems, the high-energy effort benefits from the group's openness to nu metal stylings. The blend of their more death and groove-friendly sound with hardcore and metalcore jazzes up the predictably hot-tempered meditations on rebellion and oppression.

The LP also sees three intriguing collaborations. The group get the frontmen of Dead Kennedys and Hatebreed on before enjoying a head-spinning instrumental duel with Apocalyptica to close out the album. All in all, 'Nation' is like a variety show of what makes Sepultura great.

The lack of promotion for the LP has often been cited as a primary factor in its disappointing sales. Frustrated, the band eventually left Roadrunner Records over it, claiming a music video for 'One Man Army' had also been nixed.
