10 Most Underrated Oasis Songs
4. Gas Panic - Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants
When looking at Oasis' discography through the years, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants finds them in a bit of a weird place. With only the Gallagher Brothers and drummer Alan White for a majority of its runtime, this is probably the darkest record in their catalog, as they try to figure out if they can still function as a band after a lengthy hiatus. As it turns out though, things can get more interesting when you learn to embrace the darkness.
Being one of the most dreamy backing tracks in the band's history, the whole vibe of Gas Panic! starts to turn sour as soon as Liam's vocals enter, as he talks about a ghost of sin creeping through his curtain. Yeah, you haven't been transported into a dream here, but rather a nightmare where Liam is about to unleash Hell on your psyche.
While the backing track takes its sweet time to actually take off, the anticipation is more than worth the wait, as the production starts to glitch out a bit and turn into one of the most psychedelic sounding passages in their entire catalog. Hell, if this is what it sounds like to hear Oasis try on the more electronic sides of their sounds, they probably should have done it more often. It's not necessarily Nine Inch Nails, but it's certainly unsettling all the same.
