10 Most Underrated Pearl Jam Songs
3. Down - Lost Dogs
Even for some of the extended members of the Jammily, there aren't many who can talk about the Lost Dogs compilation from back to front. Along with their penchant for making bootlegs of their concerts, there are plenty of B-sides to dig through in Pearl Jam's catalog. Whereas songs like Yellow Ledbetter deserved far more than just being a B-side, the same case can be made for Down.
Coming out during the time of Riot Act, it's a crime that this was never released as a single. Hell, this practically has the words 'hit' prestamped on it, from the opening guitar chords sounding almost anthemic in their delivery. When Eddie actually opens his mouth though, the song even manages to go a little bit higher, having a mix of power pop elements along with a kind of alternative bent that you would have seen out of the Foo Fighters from around this time.
Then again, maybe that's why Eddie decided to throw it on the B-side of I Am Mine, since most of the tracks to come off of Riot Act didn't really seem to fit with the kind of freewheeling vibe of this song. If you consider yourself a fan of any kind of rock music though, you owe it to yourself to dig up this song from obscurity. Trust me, your ears will thank you.
