10 Most Underrated Pearl Jam Songs
2. Infallible - Lightning Bolt
Out of all of the late period albums in Pearl Jam's catalog, Lightning Bolt is probably the most straightforward record they've made in a while. Though albums like Binaural and No Code (ESPECIALLY NO CODE) made it meet you halfway, this is the kind of rock and roll that feels like it was meant to be played in stadiums around the world. This is Pearl Jam though, and even if they were giving us stadium rockers, they hadn't lost their voice.
Having a theatrical backdrop that seems to be influenced by someone like Pink Floyd, the melody behind Infallible is absolutely amazing, as Eddie rides the chord changes of Stone and Mike just like he would if he were on the surf back at home. When you break down the lyrics, Eddie is a lot more angry here than you probably think, talking about the future of mankind and what it means to protect our planet.
Taking on different government officials, the lyrics seem to get more and more frustrated about how the people who lead the world aren't doing anything to care for it, letting the biggest things slip right through their hands without thinking twice about it. Yes, as they reach the age where they start to get grey around the temples, Pearl Jam have actually offered up an environmental song, and it's no big surprise that something like this kicks ass.
