10 Most Underrated Punk Albums Ever
4. Ramones - Halfway To Sanity
Within the scope of punk rock, it’s difficult to perceive anything produced by the godfathers of the genre as underrated. Ramones in general are arguably one of the most underrated bands in history though, which is why they appear here.
Although early material from the group such as the self-titled album gets plenty of punk praise, later records such as the one in question are dangerously underrated. As the band's tenth studio album in 11 years, ‘Halfway to Sanity’ was released in 1987 and was almost completely ignored by music critics. The only notable British journalist who covered the album, Mark Bannister, accused the record of having ‘no equilibrium’ as it included too many songs written by Dee Dee Ramone.
The lack of commercial success and minimal exposure for this release caused it to disappear into Ramone’s back catalogue, where it stayed until long after the band called it quits. To this day, ‘Halfway to Sanity’ is one of the rarest Ramones albums in both vinyl and CD format, while its disastrous commercial performance meant it wasn’t added to some streaming services until 2020.
