10 Most Underrated Punk Albums Ever
2. Reagan Youth - Volume 1
Given the lack of political correctness in the original punk scene, it shouldn’t be too surprising to see a band like Reagan Youth pop up. Forming in 1980, this New York based group joined the cities booming anarcho-punk movement and toured extensively with punk legends like Bad Brains and The Misfits.
This controversial group used far-right imagery to draw dark parallels between fascism and then President elect, Ronald Reagan. This was highlighted by ‘Volume 1’, which mostly consisted of re-worked and re-recorded songs from the band's debut album. The aggression and velocity of every song makes this record an incredible example of punk rock from start to finish. Fuelled by brutal lyrical narratives, rumbling bass lines and screeching guitar play, ‘Volume 1’ is without question one of the most overlooked punk albums of all time.
Key songs from this pioneering political punk record include ‘I Hate Hate!’, ‘Degenerated’, and ‘(Are You) Happy?’, just try not to pay too much attention to the album’s cover art.
