10 Most Underrated Rock Albums Of The 90s
5. The Masterplan - Oasis
Okay, so maybe it might be considered cheating to put an album that's meant to be just a compilation on a list like this. I mean, since the band didn't really put these songs together intending to make an album, how are we supposed to look at it on the same level as their actual studio records? You'd have a fair statement there too...if we weren't actually talking about Oasis.
Alongside their classic albums, Oasis have some of the greatest B-sides in the business, and The Masterplan is one of the greatest albums that they never technically made. Being comprised mainly of live songs and B-sides of their singles, almost any one of these songs could have been another band's greatest hit, like the Britpop bombast of something like Fade Away or the wistful acoustic songs like Half the World Away and Going Nowhere.
Seeing how this is all about B-sides though, these songs were also opportunities to see different sides of the band that you didn't realize you wanted, like the breathtaking Talk Tonight or the full on punk rock song Headshrinker. And no matter which way you look at it, the Masterplan is by far the greatest song that Noel Gallagher has ever written. As much as people say that B-sides don't really matter, it would be a crime if any Oasis fan bypassed these songs.
