10 Most Underrated Rock Songs Of The 2000s

4. Northern Downpour - Panic at the Disco

The idea of Panic at the Disco actually becoming global sensations after their debut seemed just crazy enough to work in the mid-'00s. Even though most of their schtick involved donning the makeup on pretty thick and catering to emo trends, the songs on A Fever You Can't Sweat Out had just the right hooks to make them into the successes that they are today. So where did they go from here? The exact opposite direction.

Yeah, aside from just a few singles, Pretty. Odd. remains an outlier in Panic's catalog, being a sort of opus for founding guitarist Ryan Ross. While some fans may have not liked the drastic tonal shift of something like this, Northern Downpour is more than worth your time, being a practical homage to the glory days of rock and roll. Instead of the usual mix of electronica combined with rock and roll, this folk tinged ballad feels like it's ripped right out of a Crosby, Stills, and Nash record, or even the later acoustic jams that the Beatles would pump out.

Aside from the tune itself, the orchestration on here is absolutely immaculate, with Ross' vocals playing off of Brendon Urie's perfectly, especially when they harmonize with each other in the chorus. Even if this version of Panic was about to fall apart, this is the sendoff they really deserved.
