10 Most Underrated Rock Songs Of The 2000s
3. Life Less Frightening - Rise Against
The usual influx of punk seemed to be dead in the water once the '00s rolled around. I mean, unless you were catering more towards pop punk like Blink-182 or Sum 41, the chances of an all-out punk affair making its way onto the charts felt inconceivable. However, we did at least get one ace in the hole when Rise Against started to make waves on the scene.
Starting with Siren Song of the Counterculture, this offered something a lot more lively and refreshing than the sound of Simple Plan blaring over the speakers. Rather than cater the adolescent mindset of the pop punk movement, Life Less Frightening is something that hits you in your gut once you take the time to listen to the lyrics. Always wanting to speak for the disenfranchised, most of the lyrics from Tim McIlrath read like a condemnation of fear mongers trying to stir up terror in the minds of civilians watching the news every day.
Seeing how this was released a few years after 9/11, this was something that a lot of young rock fans needed to hear when surrounded by these firestarters every day. No matter how much they may like to shout about the dangers happening all around us, it's not all bad. Life can move on, life can get better, and even you can weather the storm.
