10 Most Underrated Rock Songs Of The 90s

7. Off He Goes - Pearl Jam

When talking about the classic period of Pearl Jam, No Code seems to be the moment where everything hits a major brick wall. For as much of a hot streak as they had been on throughout the '90s, this felt like a deliberate attempt for Eddie Vedder to tone things down, which is a recipe for disaster considering how much destruction goes on when the band has their teeth exposed. Though there is a muzzle of sorts on for this album, their slow jam game is still intact on songs like Off He Goes.

Compared to the more documentarian style songs that happen on other Pearl Jam records like Daughter and Better Man, a good chunk of this song is actually about Eddie himself, as he talks about what it means to not be there for his friends and keeping to himself mainly. Though this is not what we normally come to Pearl Jam for, the tone is right where it needs to be to bring something like this across.

Seeing how this was the moment where the band wasn't even having much fun anymore, this is the byproduct of those years in the spotlight, as we see them getting a lot more subdued and mellow with age. It's not going to start a mosh pit or anything, but if you're sitting around a campfire, this is still a welcome addition to the set.
