10 Most Underrated Singers In Modern Rock
8. David Stephens
The state of We Came As Roman's may be in total flux right now, but for five albums, Stephens was a vocal powerhouse with one of the best screams in the business.
Screaming is not an easy thing to do, contrary to popular opinion, it does indeed require a great deal of talent. What requires even more talent however, is screaming fast, and that's what David Stephens does so damn well. The song above is Wasted Age, and the studio version is great, but we've highlighted the live rendition and it shows Stephens' incredible vocals at work - see the 2:30 mark of the song for just how powerful he is.
Stephens' scream is guttural and strong, and his singing voice isn't half bad either. That may not sound so unique, but, in the metalcore genre, 99% of bands sound the same. We Came As Romans have always stood out because of the two hugely talented vocalists at the helm. That number may be down to one, with the unfortunate passing of Kyle Pavone, but David Stephens remains one of the best vocalists in the genre today.
