10 Most Underrated Singers In Modern Rock

5. Simon Neil

"I am explosive and volatile, I'm on the turn. So I'm gonna howl like an animal." That line is pretty evocative of Biffy Clyro as a whole; unique, vivid, and a tad confusing. Howl is rather basic song for Biffy Clyro, at least in terms of structure and sound, but it showcases Simon Neil's ability to go from soothing melody to feral yell with baffling ease. It also shows the quirkiness that has pervaded that bands discography for over a decade.

The lead singer of Biffy Clyro is one of the most recognisable voices in rock, with poetic lyrics to match. As if that band wasn't quite distinct enough with it's instrumental sound, Neil's trademark Scottish twang adds another layer of personality to the songs.

Some of the bands best songs, and Neil's standout performances, include Many of Horror, Re-arrange, God & Satan, The Captain, Biblical, Saturday Superhouse, Animal Style, and Machines. If you've never heard this band before, do yourself a favour and check them out immediately. Not only is Simon Neil a massively underrated vocalist, the band in all is still, relatively-speaking, under-the-radar.
