10 Most Underrated Slipknot Songs
9. Iowa
Slipknot may have a lot of different sounds laced throughout their discography, but you can normally expect something pretty dark. Whether put together for shock value or to create a sense of unease, every track by this band can fill you with dread, despair, and angst in one sitting. Even with all the heaviness at their disposal, the closing track to their album Iowa showed that you didn't need intense speed to scare someone.
Recorded towards the end of the sessions, this 15 minute piece is one of the most disturbing moments in the band's career, as Corey Taylor talks about being smitten by...something. As the song goes on, it sounds like he's talking about a romantic partner, but the song gets 10x more gross when you realize he's playing with a corpse.
Once you combine those lyrics with the backing track, it's almost like you're in the mind of this lunatic as he does unspeakable things to this person. Even the actual recording of the track wasn't a pretty sight, with Taylor stripping himself nude and cutting himself up as the tape rolled.
There have been many metalheads who critique Slipknot's softer side, but after one listen to this track, you can't say that these guys aren't willing to mess with some heads when they want to.
