10 Most Underrated Slipknot Songs

6. Heretic Anthem

From day one, metal music has thrived on taking jabs at the ultra-religious members of society. It seems that for as many dark themes run throughout bands like Black Sabbath or Slayer, you can find a lot of subject matters dealing with the occult, Satan, or the general distaste towards the more faithful branches of mankind.

If not tackled properly, this cliche of metal can seem like cheap shock horror, but "The Heretic Anthem" is one of metal's freshest takes on the matter.

Arriving right in the middle of Iowa, you've already gotten a healthy bludgeoning of your senses thanks to songs like "Disasterpiece," but this one reaches for the jugular and lashes out on the clean-cut image that people are expected to live by.

Rather than learning to compromise and conform, this song is an unleashing of anger against the more toned-down sound, claiming that the normal 555 mentality pales in comparison to the allure of 666.

Fans may have been happy to have the band stick to their guns, but this song quickly became a nightmare for almost any mother who absent-mindedly decided to buy their kids this CD. Then again, sometimes a few feathers need to be ruffled in order to get your point across.
