10 Most Underrated Slipknot Songs
4. Gematria
Even on the most tepid of Slipknot albums, the band always knows how to start things off.
Across every single one of the band's releases, they make perfect use of the first handful of tracks to settle you into a groove, whether it be through a chilling intro or just smashing you in the face. While All Hope is Gone does boast some of the band's more lackluster cuts, "Gematria" was the opening shot that blew the door off its hinges.
Subtitled "A Killing Name," the entire track is an indictment on the practices of modern day America, with Corey Taylor spewing venom from the back of his throat.
Though the entire band does a fantastic job, this is one of the few album cuts where you really hear the power behind the three-percussionist attack, as each hit from Joey Jordison's drums is echoed in full force by both Clown and Chris Fehn.
You also have not heard this song properly if you don't listen to the intro minute "execute." first, which gives you that rush that feels like a rocket about to take off. There's a lot of sore spots to be found amongst this album, but the amount of kickass contained in this one song is enough to forgive almost any of the band's offences.
