10 Most Underrated Songs (On Classic Albums)

8. Pretty Maids All Over - The Eagles

Whenever you think of the cool breeze in California, 90% of the time you have an Eagles song playing in your head. From their first hit "Take It Easy," the band always had that care-free attitude that embodied everything great about the Sunshine State. Though the band became bonafied superstars on Hotel California, a real songwriting highlight came from its newest member.

Most of the hits on this record like the title track and "New Kid In Town" were created by the songwriting team of Glenn Frey and Don Henley, but the band's guitar star Joe Walsh ended up writing his ethereal showcase on "Pretty Maids All In a Row." The instrumentation on this track of slide guitar, strings, and lush vocal harmonies make the tune feel like it's floating above the clouds. Sure, Walsh's voice does sound a bit out of place given Henley's beautiful croon, but the song's story of two estranged friends meeting seems more poignant coming from his voice.

This song may not have been the big hit from the record, but it has been a mainstay in the band's live setlist ever since its release. Though Walsh has been with many bands from James Gang to his solo work, "Pretty Maids All in a Row" may in fact be his masterpiece.
