10 Most Underrated Twenty One Pilots Songs
7. Kitchen Sink - Regional At Best/Vessel (2011/2013)
‘Kitchen Sink’ is beloved by some, but outside of the core fanbase, few are aware that this song even exists.
First released on the band’s second album – Regional at Best – this emotional tune tackles isolation, loneliness, hopelessness, creativity, and purpose. It’s a lot to take in when hearing the song for the first time, but Joseph’s lyrical talent keeps the song from getting too messy.
Instrumentally, ‘Kitchen Sink’ is fairly unique within the band’s catalogue. It’s a mixture of tribe-like drums, pretty piano melodies, and electronic samples. These core elements work seamlessly together, and the climax at the end of the song is one of the most impressive moments of the band’s career.
The only real negative is the rap verse by Joseph’s brother. In isolation, there’s nothing wrong with it, but it just feels out of place when compared with the rest of the song.
Still, this is a minor complaint. ‘Kitchen Sink’ is an emotional rollercoaster that fans would love to hear live more often.
