10 Music Artists That Won't Defend Their Own Songs

7. Bip Bop - Paul McCartney

In Paul McCartney's own words, he didn't really know how to be in a band after the Beatles. Regardless of his amazing solo output on his first handful of records, Paul knew that he worked best when working with other people, and wanted to put a band together that would really separate himself from the Fab Four's shadow. Though Wings' first effort Wild Life was definitely going for a different vibe, Bip Bop is one of the few songs that has actually got under Macca's skin over the years.

Much like the rest of the album, this entire song seems to be a vamp that the band were making up on the spot while they were recording, with Paul sounding like he had been chainsmoking for years before actually laying down the vocal. While songs like Mumbo may have had some echoes of Paul's heroes like Little Richard, he more or less just finds this song annoying half the time, saying that it doesn't really go anywhere and goes on way longer than it should.

The song could definitely have benefited from being a minute shorter, but there's at least a little bit of a quirk behind a song like this, as the rest of the band vamp and try to figure out what their communal sound is going to be on this album. The whole project was meant to be primitive, but there's a fine line between sounding primitive and absolute amateur hour.
