10 Music Artists Who Absolutely Hate Each Other
5. Billy Corgan and Darcy Wretsky
Being in a band together tends to be a bit dicey when you have more than one creative in the group. While many like to see a band as a democracy, it's not always that clean cut a split, with only one or two members taking the reigns for most of the group's tenure. There's the natural evolution of things...and then there's just being pushed out of the equation entirely.
During the beginnings of Smashing Pumpkins' career, it was clear that Billy Corgan was morphing into the alternative rock frontman that most people were waiting for. Though Gish marked the beginnings of something great, Siamese Dream saw them doubling down on the aggro stomp while incorporating sunshine-y melodies into the mix. It's a shame that Corgan was the only one who played on it though.
Being the perfectionist, Corgan virtually kicked everyone out of the studio sans drummer Jimmy Chamberlain and overlaid his parts on top of everyone else's, making it feel more like a glorified solo project than anything else. Even when the tensions started mounting during Adore, Corgan's iron hand became vicious when D'Arcy Wretsky quit, leading to Corgan accusing her of being strung out on drugs the whole time. Even when assembling the "original" band recently, Wretsky has remained conspicuously absent, as if some pent up stuff hasn't been amended. Then again, seeing how Billy is still as much of a dictator as he ever was, maybe it's for the best that D'Arcy flies solo for a little while.
