10 Music Artists Who Absolutely Hate Each Other

2. Robert Smith and Morrissey

Somewhere in between the styles of new wave and hair metal, rock and roll started to get a lot more melodramatic in the '80s. Aside from the more colorful stuff you would see out of Duran Duran and the like, a lot of the independent labels saw a morose form of pop, with goth acts like Bauhaus scoring major traction in their time. Though sad boys may have been satisfied for the time being, the two reigning kings of the genre were not having any of it.

As much as the Smiths and the Cure may have a few similarities from a sonic standpoint, frontmen Robert Smith and Morrissey have each expressed their distaste for each other more times than most can keep count. While some of it may come down to the fact that they are vying for the top position, both of these retorts feel almost like children's insults in the past, with Smith calling out Morrissey for the more erratic things he has said over the years.

For as childish as most of this seems on paper, it's hard to not take the side of the Cure when you're dealing with Morrissey, who almost relishes the opportunity to stir up sh*t wherever he can. The more introspective side of indie rock may helped a lot of disenfranchised kids in the long run, but it's still a shame that that same magic didn't rub off on the people who actually make the music.
