10 Music Artists Who Disappeared From The Limelight

7. Lauryn Hill

Towards the end of the '90s, it looked like Lauryn Hill was going to be the next breakout star of her generation. Though she had showed her skills as a band member in the Fugees, her solo debut with the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was a cultural firebomb that picked up multiple Grammys and put her up in the big leagues of R&B singers. On the other hand, success is something that comes when you capitalize on your potential.

While all music fans were desperately awaiting the next soulful juggernaut from Ms. Hill, things started taking a downward spiral pretty quickly. Not being able to take the machine of fame any longer, Hill entered a period of exile where she hardly socialized for almost three years.

Though she did end up putting out a special for MTV Unplugged in 2001, the writing was on the wall that something was wrong. And ever since then, we have heard nothing.

Make no mistake, Hill does still tour off and on and even features on tracks by up and coming artists, but there hasn't been any announcement of a new album from her in over 2 decades. Even her shows are a bit of a mixed bag, with it being anyone's guess as to whether they'll get the energetic Lauryn Hill of 1998 or just have her not show up at all.

Lauryn Hill might be a bit of a difficult presence in music, but when she's on her A-game, there's no one else who can touch her.
