10 Music Artists Who Disappeared From The Limelight

4. John Deacon

It's hard to think of any type of rock and roll and not bring up Queen. As soon as the band unleashed their refined kickass on the world back in the '70s, the rock masses were treated to one of the most talented ensembles ever to step onto a stage.

While members like Brian May and Freddie Mercury may get all the accolades, the work of John Deacon tends to fall by the wayside.

Although he is known primarily as the quiet one in the group, Deacon has had a hand in writing many Queen classics, from "Another One Bites the Dust" to "I Want To Break Free." He may have more competent skills from a technical perspective, but when it came time to actually hog the spotlight, he always seemed a little uncomfortable showing off his talents.

Granted, it's not like you were going to one of Queen's stadium shows to see anyone except Freddie Mercury, but a funny thing happened once the singer died of AIDs in 1991. After the tribute shows for Freddie, Deacon left the music business, not wanting to have to deal with any management affairs anymore.

Though he approves of the band's decisions going forward, it looks like the quiet one is finally able to find peace after years of arena rock bombast.
