10 Music Artists Who Disappeared From The Limelight

3. Neil Peart

When it comes to the great prog bands of the 20th century, Rush really belong in a class by themselves. Throughout their 40 year run, the band have made some of the most groundbreaking concept albums in rock and have become one of the most proficient musical collectives despite being made up of just three people.

Though many people single out Neil Peart as a god among drummers, the man himself would prefer to be more enigmatic than he really was.

Despite being one of the most competent drummers to step behind a kit, Peart always felt uncomfortable with his own celebrity, going so far as to document his feelings in songs like "Limelight." Though Peart did grant interviews to certain people and occasionally met with fans, his real exile from the spotlight was sprouted from absolute tragedy.

Before going into making their album Vapor Trails, Peart lost both his wife and daughter within a few months of each other, leading him on a motorcycle ride across the length of North America. Though he eventually returned to his drum throne, Peart was known to be closed-off to the public until the end of his life, unwilling to be seen as something more than your average guy playing music.

He might have been worthy of every drumming accolade on the planet, but Neil Peart always left his god-like aura onstage after every Rush show.
