You may think of Jason White as Green Day’s touring guitarist and you’d be right. However, at one time he was officially a full-fledged member of the band, alongside Billie Joe, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool.

Jason was first associated with the band for their ‘When I Come Around’ video, where he can be seen kissing his at the time real-life girlfriend. He went on to play in singer Billie Joe Armstrong’s side project Gunpowder, and helped him run Adeline Records.

In 1999, he started playing with Green Day on their Warning tour, playing lead guitar and helping out Billie Joe, who was becoming more comfortable in his role as frontman/singer. Jason did the same for their next record American Idiot, touring with the band on that album cycle and playing along with them in the video for ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’ – the first time a non trio member played with the band in one of their videos.

After doing the same and touring with them for their ‘21st Century Breakdown’ album, Green Day felt so high about him they asked him to officially join but didn’t publicly announce it. He’s credited with ‘guitar’ on Green Day’s ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré! trilogy of albums and even appeared with the band in photoshoots promoting the records.

After being diagnosed and recovering from tonsil cancer in late 2014, he returned to exclusively being a touring guitarist.
