10 Music Bands Who Had An Extra Member You Never Knew About

8. Destiny’s Child - Farrah Franklin (2000)

Destiny’s Child, the trio that have sold over 60 million records worldwide and are considered one of the greatest female acts of all time, were a quartet once upon a time.

Farrah Franklin was only a member of Destiny’s Child for a short period of time. She was originally hired as just an extra on the group’s music video for ‘Bills, Bills, Bills’ in 1999 and whilst there met Destiny's Child manager (and Beyoncé’s father) Matthew Knowles. He invited her to become a full-time member along with new recruits Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams a short while later.

Farrah toured with the group, appeared in the video for their Grammy-winning single ‘Say My Name’ and some of her vocals are included on the album ‘Survivor’ (which is included in the book ‘1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die’).

After six months with Beyoncé and co. she exited. As to why she quit, she later claimed in interviews to be suffering from dehydration and a stomach virus which forced her to miss some shows on tour only for Matthew Knowles to chew her out for not being able to fulfil her duties.

Beyoncé said in an interview the day after she left the group Farrah showed little interest in committing, with them having no choice but to dismiss her from the band.
