10 Music Genre Switchups That Made Absolutely No Sense

4. Tickets To My Downfall - Machine Gun Kelly

Every artist deserves the right to flirt with as many styles as they want. Once they got their chops down, bands like the Beatles or Radiohead tried to go for a different sound every single time they went into a studio. When you decide to change genres on a whim though, you better be prepared for the kind of whiplash that you're giving to your fans.

For most fans of Machine Gun Kelly, things started to get a little bit heated when he tried to start beef with Eminem on the song Rap Devil. Someone like Slim Shady wasn't going to take that lightly though, eventually burying him on the song Killshot and MGK laying low for a little while. Though that gave him time to reflect, he ended up coming back with one of the oddest choices in recent memory, going from traditional hip hop to playing pop punk tunes a la Blink 182.

While the album Tickets To My Downfall does sound great with the likes of Travis Barker playing on it, it seems all the more strange coming from someone who was already known for pop crossovers like Bad Things. In the wake of the controversy from fans, MGK has kept on doing his thing until fairly recently, where he made mention of going back to hip hop on his next few releases. The music business is a strange place, and given what he's already done, there's no telling where this genre traveler is going to go next. We'll have to patiently wait when we eventually get his country and bluegrass album in 2028.
