10 Music Reunions That Were Doomed From The Start

9. The Supremes

As when one Motown's most successful female acts The Supremes have had a long and distinguished career. Originally fronted by Diana Ross once her stature increased she left the group to go solo. Despite their lead singer leaving, the group continued with various different lineups for much of the 1970s.

Although there had been interest in reforming The Supremes since the 1980s it was not until 2000 that anything got off the ground. Billed as the Return To Love tour the initial plan was to have 1960s members Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong rejoin Ross. When Wilson refused to join due to the significantly lower amount of money offered to her and Birdsong the venture looked like it was not going to happen.

Instead 1970s members Lynda Laurence and Scherrie Payne joined Ross on tour. Neither member had sung together in the group and it failed to get the public excited. Despite positive reviews of their performances ticket sales were low and the tour got cancelled half through its prospective run.
