10 Music Side Projects Better Than The Main Band
8. The Raconteurs
Ever since his days with the White Stripes, Jack White has always felt like a man out of time. Sure, his retro take on blues rock with his sister(?) Meg may have been new and exciting at the time, but the songs themselves felt more at home in the '70s than anything released at the turn of the century.
So, it's only natural to see White folding his Stripes talents into more laid back material with the Raconteurs.
Teaming up with Brendan Benson, Jack feels so much more at home with this project, bringing with him his signature weirdness as well some distinct blues and country flair into the mix.
Although there's no mistaking this for being a Jack White-led affair, there are many great moments where Benson steps up, managing to give Jack a run for his money behind the mic.
That also might be a bit of a strength though. As much as Jack White has been known as the center of attention in his other outfits, this gives him an opportunity to flex his muscles in the background, making for songs that feel much more like a team effort than just conjuring riffs out of nothing.
Even though the Stripes might get all the glory, The Raconteurs definitely have the potential to grow on you over time.
