10 Music Side Projects Better Than The Main Band

7. Audioslave

Ok...so maybe it doesn't count to include an act that was a legit band for a handful of years. After all, each member didn't really have any other projects going on during this time, so it's not like they could run back to their main outfits if it didn't work out. When you have a supergroup join together this well though, it's definitely worth mentioning.

Once Rage Against the Machine went kaput after a split with Zack de la Rocha, Chris Cornell of Soundgarden reignited the fire by forming Audioslave, which threw it back to a more classic rock approach.

Although nothing that Tom Morello plays could be considered normal, there's clearly a lot more restraint in what he's doing here, only putting the mind blowing effects in the exact right spots on songs like Like a Stone or Revelations. The chemistry certainly hasn't gone anywhere either, with Tim Commerford locking in with Brad Wilk to create a rhythmic that sounds like concrete.

And Chris Cornell...is Chris god damn Cornell...you don't need to worry about a thing when he brings his voice to the table. From the slower ballad like songs to the stomper tracks that can still open up the pit, Audioslave feels like one of the last great bands from the '70s that we somehow never heard of until now.
