10 Musical Artists Who Never Got To Become Superstars
6. Danny Lilker - Anthrax
Whenever a band is just getting things started, there's always that breaking in period where tensions start to form. During any band's rise to the top, you'd be hardpressed to find anyone with zero horror stories of having to either kick someone out of the band or dealing with a diva in the group. Even though most of the thrash legends had a one for all mentality, Dan Lilker of Anthrax really deserved to go out better than he did.
Being the first member to form Anthrax back in the early '80s, Lilker was the first one to hook up with Scott Ian back in the day, going so far as to come up with the name of the group based on a disease that he was reading about in Biology class. When things started to turn a corner though, vocalist Neil Turbin started to get way too big for his leather pants, calling the shots and giving the band an ultimatum to fire Danny or he wouldn't sing for the band.
It especially hurts in retrospect when you realize that the whole thing was for nought, with Turbin being ousted shortly after Fistful of Metal to be replaced with Joey Belladonna's trademark screams. Then again, since we ended up getting Frank Bello behind the four string in Lilker's place, maybe it's a bit of a mixed blessing in retrospect.
