10 Musical Shifts That Fell Flat On Their Face
9. Just Push Play - Aerosmith
Aerosmith’s history has been a series of ups and downs throughout the years. While the band have some of the greatest rock records of all time to their name, they also have a handful of records that don’t deserve to be anywhere near the heavy hitters. Though it’s understandable for a band to have a few clunkers, it’s strange how we didn’t see the sheen of Just Push Play coming.
Ever since Aerosmith had gotten a second wind in the mid ‘80s, they spent the rest of their tenure chasing the more pop rock sound. Even if it wasn’t as dangerous as something like Toys in the Attic, it still held up as decent pop music, but Just Push Play is where the band left their rock roots behind.
As soon as you heard the first single “Jaded,” fans knew that something was terribly wrong, with a guitar riff that could fit on a backing track from any other pop star at the time.
That’s not where it ends though, with most of the record being a final wake for the Bad Boys from Boston who were consumed by the pop monster. Some of these work as decent pop tracks, but the sonic polish is so bright that you don’t even recognize the band anymore.
