10 Musical Shifts That Fell Flat On Their Face
8. Two Virgins - John Lennon
Yoko Ono tends to get a bad reputation as being the woman who broke up the Beatles. Just when the Fab Four started making some of the greatest pop music ever made, they started to splinter off into different directions, with John Lennon’s relationship with Ono being pegged as the reason behind their downfall.
Though the Beatles’ breakup was inevitable, no one could have been prepared for what Lennon had up his sleeve as a solo artist.
After his relationship with Ono started, he began to make avant garde works with her, with the first one being named Two Virgins. With years of songwriting brilliance under his belt, this is Lennon putting half-baked ideas onto a full release, complete with background noise and screaming. To cap it all off, Lennon chose probably the most uncommercial album cover in history by posing nude with Yoko.
Lennon was always known to be the eccentric Beatle, but one listen to this album makes you question whether this was the same guy who wrote stuff like “Strawberry Fields Forever.” John may have found his soulmate, but the first creative steps he took afterwards left many die hard Fabs fans concerned for his well being.
