Usually when a band is spending way too much time in the studio, the audience can hear alarm bells. Although not every contentious record winds up becoming a harsh listen, more often than not you get songs that sound either half finished or something way too neutered to be considered an authentic piece of art. So when you put your album through a post-production ice age like A Day to Remember, fans were lined up with pitchforks already for You're Welcome.
Being newly signed to Fueled By Ramen, this delve into the electronic pop sphere is one of the greatest missteps that these metalcore/pop punk bros have ever done. In fact, the devil comes when they trick you, starting off the album with the thrash of Brick Wall before turning down the gas all the way for the rest of the record.
It's almost like they knew that they had something a bit polarizing on their hands, with each song making them sound closer to the Panic at the Disco brand of rock than the brilliant melodies they were writing on albums like Common Courtesy. Then again, this is just one album to judge them from. When the dust settles, things may look up...but these guys clearly have a lot of work to do before reacquainting themselves with their heavy roots.
