10 Musicians That Got Fired From Huge Bands

1. Dave Mustaine - Metallica

Not many people who get kicked out of bands manage to take it all that well. When you have that band of brothers mentality, it's not easy going back to your day job when the rest of the guys think that you're not cut out for the big time. There tends to be a lot of anger tangled up in those relationships, but Dave Mustaine used that anger to pull off one of the biggest comebacks in metal history.

After Metallica began their long trek across America to sign with MegaForce records in New York, Dave was getting more and more erratic, destroying people's houses and getting way too out of hand with his drinking, which usually escalated to violence fairly quickly. By the time the band got to New York, they had a bus ticket in hand for Dave, giving him a one way ticket back to California and keeping some of the riffs he wrote for themselves like Jump In the Fire and The Call of Ktulu.

On the bus ride back though, Dave was already planning something bigger down the line, hooking up with bassist David Ellefson not long after he got back and forming the crux of what became Megadeth, operating as a more technical version of what Metallica were doing half a world away. Dave already had his songwriting intact before he was sacked, but he wasn't going to let a band like Metallica keep him from becoming one of the greatest metal guitarists in the world.
