10 Musicians That Got Seriously Injured Onstage
4. Nine Inch Nails' Rogue Mic Stand
For a guy who's main instrument is the piano most of the time, you still have to proceed with caution whenever you step to Trent Reznor onstage. While you might be singing along to the cathartic sounds of a song like Hurt these days, the years of Pretty Hate Machine were a different story, with Reznor playing up his rock star persona and tearing the stage to shreds at whatever chance he got. It's one thing to play the rock star onstage...just as long as you don't end up injuring your friends in the process.
Even though Trent throwing his keyboard around the stage was nothing new, things went a little haywire when his mic stand became airborne in the mid '90s. Throwing it off to the back of the stage, Reznor started to notice that something was off only to look back and realize the drummer had caught shrapnel from his antics and had his head cut open while trying to dodge it.
Any sensible band would have probably taken a break at this point, but Nine Inch Nails weren't really built to just give up after a little boo-boo. With a massive gash still on his head, the drummer kept on playing the rest of the set, as a roadie kept handing him a towel to keep his wound clean as the set continued. No matter how much Trent might have a hand in putting the music together for these shows, someone needs to give that drummer a raise for his trouble.
