10 Musicians Who Almost Joined The Wrong Band

8. Corey Taylor - Velvet Revolver

Sick and tired of the rockstar antics of Axl Rose, ex-GNR members Slash, Duff McKagan, and Matt Sorum formed a new band with Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland with Velvet Revolver. While the initial creative process was fruitful, the band saw some of the same trappings of Rose's antics manifesting in Weiland.

After their second release, the band parted ways with Weiland and began searching for other singers. Among other rock heavyweights like the Cult's Ian Astbury, Slipknot's Corey Taylor was one of the few singers who was flown down to collaborate with the group on a few jam sessions. Even though the ideas seemed to have enormous potential, the band quickly dissolved with Slash embarking on a solo career and Duff making his own music with his band Loaded.

With Slash and Duff now back in GNR, it's anybody's guess as to what will come of Velvet Revolver. Though the demos still exist in their primitive state, it is unclear whether the hard rock pubic will ever hear what Velvet Revolver could have sounded like with Taylor at the helm. However, Slash has spoken that the band has some unfinished business to tend to, so maybe a new incarnation of the band could manifest itself after all.
