10 Musicians Who Hate Their Own Songs
2. Oasis - Wonderwall
Wonderwall is Oasis' arguably most well-known song, at least when it comes to American audiences. It was the single that really broke them across the pond and made them global rock gods. To this day, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? remains a cultural touchstone and remarkably timeless piece of music, and Wonderwall deserves a lot of credit for that.
With that in mind, you'd think the band would love it, right? But things are never that simple with the Gallagher brothers. Liam has said that it "makes him want to gag" every time he has to perform it live and it seems to be the only thing he hates more than his own brother.
This is what he had to say about it during a promotional interview for Dig Out Your Soul, the band's final album (so far!): "Problem is, it was a big, big tune for us. You go to America and they’re like, ‘Are you Mr Wonderwall?’ You want to chin someone.”
Ah, Liam. Always so charming and measured. Clearly, it's not so much the song itself that irritates Gallagher, as the fact that it became so synonymous with the band and himself, almost like it's the only good one they've ever made. And that, of course, is far from being the case.
