10 Musicians Who Hate Their Own Songs

3. Kanye West - Gold Digger

This entry is different from all the others on the list, in the sense that the artist never liked the song, to begin with.

While the other musicians wrote the respective songs for mostly genuine reasons, Kanye West wrote Gold Digger specifically because he knew it would bring him money and success.

"I never really liked that song, but I knew I would get paid for doing Gold Digger", he told Zane Lowe in an interview for BBC Radio in 2013. And he was definitely right, because the song went on to become one of his biggest hits, breaking download records and helping him win two Grammy Awards in 2006.

Interestingly enough, Kanye first wrote the song from a woman's point of view and it was supposed to be performed by rapper Shawnna and included on her 2004 debut record Worth Tha Weight. She eventually declined to use it, so Ye adapted the lyrics and added it to Late Registration, his sophomore album that came out a year later.

Kanye has maintained that the track doesn't suit his style and he barely ever performs it in his live shows. Now, I ain't saying he's a gold digger, but he clearly wrote the song just to make money.
