10 Musicians Who Have Joined Multiple Bands

8. Neal Schon

Neal Schon clearly has his status as a guitar god already secure thanks to his run in Journey. While you could poke fun at the band's more sappy moments, the lead guitar flourishes from Schon gave the music the edge that it needed to capture the hearts of hard rock fans and pop enthusiasts alike. Then again, Schon could have easily been involved in a much different sounding musical outfit.

With the young guitar slinger still in his teens, he would casually be picked up from school by keyboardist Gregg Rolie so that they could jam in this new band called Santana. The band's more eclectic approach to songwriting allowed Schon to flex his muscles beyond just hard rock, as he incorporated everything from Latin music to jazz fusion to create different sonic textures across the band's records. Just as Journey was starting to pick up steam, Schon even got a call from Eric Clapton wondering if he would have been interested in joining his new band Derek and the Dominoes.

Choosing to find his groove in his own band, Schon politely declined Slowhand's offer and formed the basis for what we now know as Journey. Even though Schon's best work comes when Steve Perry is belting out the hits, his resume shows that his creativity behind a guitar knows no bounds.
