10 Musicians Who Should Release More Music

4. Billy Joel

As time goes by, Billy Joel has become a treasure in the pop industry. From his complex musical background to the weird harmonies he uses, the man's music is a throwback to the golden age of songwriting that you just don't see anymore. However, considering the radio silence we've gotten from him as of late, it's anyone's guess as to whether Joel himself is out of gas.

Granted, Joel does have somewhat of a defense for his lack of musical output. When asked about his inability to write any more albums, Joel said his mindset was just about being realistic, not wanting to have his audience short-changed by a new song when they could be hearing something like "Piano Man" or "Just The Way You Are." It's certainly understandable for Joel to know his audience, but it's also disheartening to see one of the great pop songwriters walk away from songwriting.

Take a man like Elton John for instance, who is still pumping out albums and even film soundtracks into his old age. Joel could even make the jump into more structured compositions, which he was alluding to on the classical album Fantasies and Delusions. Even if it's just for one song or a new musical avenue entirely, the people deserve to see the Piano Man take one final creative bow.
